Au cours de la longue composition de leur premier album « Lemon Lord », sorti en Novembre 2019, Polycool s’est souvent échappé dans l’écriture spontanée et l’expérimentation musicale. Utilisant entre autres des synthés « jouets » des années 80 (de la gamme Yamaha PSS) plongés dans une production très lo-fi, ils composent alors ce qu’ils appellent eux-même la « moelle » (de l’adjectif moelleux, s’attribue à un morceau calme, ambient et sous-marin ), donnant naissance à 7 chansons jugées trop expérimentales pour être intégrées à l’album.

Le groupe décida que ces 7 morceaux formeraient un ensemble à part nommé la « Lemon Tape », qui pour eux devint la musique composée par leur Seigneur Citron lui-même et l’intégrèrent symboliquement dans l’histoire de leur album.
